What a class....!!

There definitely was a lot of chaos in class on Monday. You have people screaming from all parts of the room trying to put in their 2 cents. To say it was very unorganized would be an under statment, but I guess that was the point. How could a room of 70+ people all with different personalities and views come to a unanimous decision all on our own without any structure.

I personally believe that I was very accomodating. I felt that any decision made by the group would be beneficial to me. There were more people who needed a solid decision to increase their chances of doing good on this and next tests. I felt the decision should definitely benefit everyone else more than myself.

The one thing that the class lacked was a true leader who could bring everyone together and come to an equitable solution for everyone. There were to many people going up trying to make their cases but that wasn't a smart idea. When you have several "leaders" people decide to choose which "leader" to agree and follow. This would have cut down on all the minor side arguments and increased clear communication among the group.

It was a very interesting class that I enjoyed very much, I just sat back and listened to everything everyone had to say. I only spoke about 3 times. It definitely was a revealing experience and an eye opener, I was able to see how a group of 70+ individuals can try to work together to come with a viable solution.

Revealing indeed. It is one thing to contemplate the difficulties of negotiation in large groups and quite another to actually experience it. I've read about the chaotic, hostile, and triumphant stories that took place at the constitutional convention back in 1787 and our class activity gave us a little taste of it.

Good point about the "true" leader. Very rarely do we come across someone who can unite such a diverse body of people. The challenge is not from an unwillingness or lack of desire to bring everyone together, it's just a very difficult balancing act to achieve.

I also agree with you that it was very hectic in the beginning but to my surprise we all collaborated and actually got through and made a decision. In the beginning I thought nothing would end up happening but I guess the pressure of time running out definitely benefited us.

it was hectic and the truth is at first i didn't think anything was going to be done, or that it was a trick by the professor. eventually everything pulled together and we actually came to a decision.

I do agree with Angel - there was definitely a chaotic atmosphere in class that day. However, I think that it was good that we all had to agree. That sort of pushed everyone to be involved, not just the people that needed a "boost" of sorts.

I think that having someone come in as a leader was indeed a good thing. It provided perspective and we could put in our 2 cents in a more orderly fashion. The time contstraint was daunting, especially after realizing we wasted most of the class time to talk amongst ourselves and have little groups that would discuss it back and forth.
